What an evidence-backed
purchase decision looks like.

Hypothetical US buyer: iPhone or iPad, a coach's pace intervals, and a need for automatic speed and, where prescribed, incline. This is research, not a customer order or a hands-on equipment test.

The result is a source-backed shortlist and question set. It is not a hardware certification, safety assessment, or future-firmware guarantee.

The decision

One documented path. Two conditional candidates.

KICKR RUN with a TrainingPeaks pace-target workout through the Wahoo app is the clearest documented route. It requires a right-paddle confirmation at pace or pace-and-grade changes, so it is not a no-interaction workout.

DOCUMENTED, WITH A CONDITION

KICKR RUN + Wahoo + TrainingPeaks pace targets

Pace and prescribed grade can change after the runner confirms pace or pace-and-grade transitions with the right paddle.

EXCLUDED FOR THIS REQUIREMENT

Zwift structured workouts

They do not provide automatic belt-speed control. Grade control is also disabled in Zwift structured workouts.

CONDITIONAL / NEEDS PROOF

Current Horizon 7.0 AT and SOLE F80

Current listings establish some connectivity, not the exact app-controlled interval behavior this buyer needs.

Candidate comparison

Do not turn a model name into a guarantee.

Horizon 7.0 ATCurrent US listing; general information identifies SKU HTM1457-01.FTMS live metrics and Apple/Samsung watch data are advertised.Exact Runna speed/incline support. An older official app chart applies only to 7.0AT-04, not this listing.Conditional. Ask for the shipped suffix, console, firmware, and proof of the chosen app running an interval workout.
SOLE F80Current US listing describes it as new for 2026.Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and the free SOLE+ app.Runna or TrainingPeaks automatic belt-speed/incline control. Bluetooth does not prove third-party command support.Unverified for this requirement. Request exact app and firmware confirmation before purchase.
Wahoo KICKR RUNWahoo documents remote control and planned TrainingPeaks pace-target workouts through the Wahoo app.A fully hands-off pace workout. Runna availability is not confirmed in the checked material.Documented option if paddle confirmation is acceptable; confirm device, app version, and subscription before ordering.

App and mode change the answer

“Works with the app” is too broad.

TrainingPeaks → Wahoo → KICKR RUN

Fits conditionally. Pace-target intervals can control belt speed; prescribed grade can apply. The runner confirms pace or pace-and-grade changes with the paddle.

Wahoo planned-workout documentation

Zwift → KICKR RUN structured workout

Does not fit. Wahoo says Zwift does not control belt speed in structured workouts, and grade control is disabled there.

Wahoo Zwift documentation

Runna → KICKR RUN

Still verify. Wahoo's June 2026 app guide labels the capability “Coming Soon.” Do not treat this as released support for a particular app/firmware combination.

Wahoo app guide

Runna → generic FTMS treadmill

Still verify. Runna distinguishes full-control hardware from machines that only share data. FTMS is not an exact-model certificate.

Runna treadmill documentation

Kinomap → interactive treadmill

Does not fit automatic-speed requirement. Compatible hardware can change incline; speed changes remain manual.

Before buying

Questions that turn an unknown into evidence.

  1. What exact app and workout source are required, and is a paddle confirmation acceptable?
  2. What model suffix, console version, and firmware will ship in the United States?
  3. Can the seller or maker show the chosen app changing speed and incline through a complete interval workout on that version?
  4. If automatic control cannot be confirmed, is manual control acceptable? If not, keep the candidate unverified.

Where the value may be

Free sources are strong. Their limits still need sorting.

Vendor and app documentation is freely readable, and vendor support or QZ's public compatibility wiki can help with model-specific questions. This sample adds no proprietary device data. It identifies the Zwift exclusion, Wahoo's paddle condition, Runna's “Coming Soon” qualification, and the danger of applying older-generation reports to current listings.

The planned one-off price is $29, confirmed with scope before paid work.
